Hi all. Thanks to help by @Mathieu_Pellerin , @cuprico and @fggs-pascal , I’m quite happy to offer my suite of geological field mapping tools for QField:

1. A geological compass, long wished by fellow (structural) geologists; it is based on the original code by Mark Jessell ([GitHub - swaxi/compass: compass plugin for QFIELD · GitHub](https://github.com/swaxi/compass)) with, I hope, some improvements :
[GitHub - jfmoyen/QField\_qml\_Geological\_compass: A QField plugin adding a geological compass app to record plane and line orientation · GitHub](https://github.com/jfmoyen/QField_qml_Geological_compass)

On the github page, you will also find a page describing the [inner workings](https://github.com/jfmoyen/QField_qml_Geological_compass/blob/main/Under_the_hood.md) of the plugin, for fellow developers.

1. A small modification of Snap! ([GitHub - opengisch/qfield-snap: Allow for snapping of photos to create a feature at the current device location. · GitHub](https://github.com/opengisch/qfield-snap)), simply by sending the new photo to a pre-defined layer (rather than the active one): [GitHub - jfmoyen/QField\_MySnap: The snap! plugin, slightly modified · GitHub](https://github.com/jfmoyen/QField_MySnap)

2. A database, and QGS project template ([GitHub - jfmoyen/QField\_Geological\_mapping\_template: A QGIS template project for geological mapping using QField · GitHub](https://github.com/jfmoyen/QField_Geological_mapping_template/)), to store the data collected.

It seems to work on my device (I will try more next week, I’ll be in the field). Now bracing for the unavoidable bug reports… 🥹

PS. I take the opportunity to mention the beautiful QGIS work by the SWAXI group (Mark and friends): [SWAXI · GitHub](https://github.com/swaxi). They have a superb suite of QGIS plugins to plot [stereonets](https://github.com/swaxi/qgis-stereonet), work with [potential (gravi and mag) fields](https://github.com/swaxi/SGTool), etc.

Also the cool qgSurf ([qgSurf — QGIS Python Plugins Repository](https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qgSurf/)) by Mauro Alberti, to calculate the trace of geological planes on DEM or calculate the attitude of a plane based on observed points.

Lastly, the French BRGM is releasing their 3D geological modeller ([ForGEO — QGIS Python Plugins Repository](https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/ForGEO/)), an evolution of their historic tools (GDM and GeoModeller). User-friendly is not the term that comes to mind, but it seems extremely powerful!

So we can really do a lot of geology in QGIS/QField these days 🙂
