Da2 and Qfield on IOS

Hi,

I’m testing QField on an iPhone with a Trimble DA2 using Trimble Mobile Manager.

The receiver connects correctly in Mobile Manager, but the GNSS accuracy reported in QField is dramatically different from the accuracy shown in Mobile Manager, even though both applications are using the same receiver.

The position itself appears to be correct, but the reported horizontal and vertical accuracy in QField is much worse than in Mobile Manager.

I also noticed that when trying to connect directly from QField using Bluetooth BT + BLE (NMEA) on iOS, the scan only shows BLE UUIDs instead of a device named “Trimble DA2”, so I cannot select the receiver directly.

My questions are:

  1. Is QField actually using the position provided by Trimble Mobile Manager on iOS?
  2. Is it expected that the GNSS accuracy displayed by QField differs significantly from Mobile Manager?
  3. Is direct Bluetooth/NMEA connection to a Trimble DA2 supported on iOS, or should QField rely exclusively on Mobile Manager?

See iOS App does show accuracy only with 5m, although 10cm RTK accuracy in device for more info on the displayed accuracy issue.

From a Trimble reseller I learned that the Catalyst is not an RTK receiver as such and therefore it will not work along with a separate NTRIP service. At least the correction is not done in the Catalyst, you need the Trimble Mobile Manager app in between to do any corrections. The app then sends a corrected ‘signal’ or ‘data’ to your phone as mock gps. At least this is what I have been told, but I do not own a Catalyst to try and test this.
