Drawing multipart features - point layers

I have a multipart point geometry layer and I would like users to be able to add mainly single part features but occasionally add extra points to a feature making it a multipart feature - can this be done?
In QGIS the tool is “add part”

BTreeTech , QField does not support multipart digitizing yet, transformed this question into an enhancement request.
