Recently I used my archaeology project template on a project in Mongolia, in which I was required to consolidate a lot of gear and travel as lightly as possible, l but also set some ground control points. CPs require good accuracy, which I attempted using a Juniper Geode receiver and the point averaging function in QField. I collected three points with 500, 500, and over 1000 averaged points respectively…
The point averaging function can go a little haywire if you hold your finger on the button long enough. I’m still not sure how I did it but twice I was able to make the ticker keep counting after my finger was off the button. Then I entered point attributes and closed the record, and the ticker was still counting. It would be very handy if this were a functional option, so the user could walk away and come back after thousands of points were collected. The averaging function also seems not transparent, but please correct me. I am unable to determine the improved accuracy of the averaged points from the output(?). Adding those two functions could be a great benefit when very high accuracy is needed and survey grade GPS is not available.
