No positioning across several projects on several devices (July 14 and 15)

Hi All,

Apologies in advance in case I leave out crucial details. If there’s something more that would help sort this out I’m happy to supply it.

For several hours yesterday and this morning my QField projects across several devices lost any sign of positioning.

For context, I have 5 separate projects customized for different users in my organization. These are used in-field on 4 Samsung Galaxy A9+ tablets. The positioning outage occurred across all projects on all devices, as well as on my personal Google Pixel 8 which I checked during troubleshooting.

During this outage period I cross checked GPS availability on a couple of the same devices which we have ESRI’s FieldMaps installed on (this is for an external client who provides this and insists we use it for their work) and it displayed positions as expected.

Yesterday the devices all displayed “waiting for position” message any time I tapped the tracking “cross hairs”. Today this message wasn’t there, there was just no response when I did this.
Throughout the outage period all of the positioning metrics showed N/A.

Testing was done indoors and outdoor with open sky view.

During troubleshooting this morning the 2 devices I was working with both started reporting positioning metrics and displaying the device location correctly on map within a minute of each other. As far as I can tell I didn’t make any changes and I hadn’t restarted the devices or app in over a half hour. All of these devices have been used in the region recently, so I do not expect it to be a matter of acquiring up to date almanac and ephemeris.

Thanks for any input, including follow-up questions!

@i.cable , could you try out this APK to confirm it fixes your issue: https://sos-ch-dk-2.exo.io/qfieldapks/ci-builds/qfield-dev-7752-249a7543f3f958c810e59cadfa1d119f57c83b3e-android-arm64.apk ? Thanks

Thanks @Mathieu_Pellerin. I’ve downloaded and made a couple of attempts to install this version however I get a message “QField Beta 7752 App not installed”. I suspect this may be due to the Android OS interfering so will follow up on that and hopefully get back to you with some useful feedback.

@i.cable , the fix I had in mind has been deployed in the latest patch release (4.2.9). You can try that instead, it’ll be easier.
