Qfield in a split screen view

Hello everyone,

We would like to use qfield for tracking routes and POIs while monitoring other devices at the same time, which means setting up at dual view with two apps on the tablet.

It does not seem like qfield is scaling automatically when putting it in a split screen view next to another app, so half the app is hidden behind the second app. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

Usman

interesting find! I was able to replicate this issue, maybe you should report it on github?

I found a workaround for now: You have to start app directly on the split-screen mode, then it takes that size as the whole canvas and doesn’t overflow the UI outside it’s limits. Be careful about rotating the screen, as this will mess up the workaround and the only solution I’ve found is to just totally close and reopen the app. I recommend locking the auto-rotate feature of your device.

Some ways I’ve found to achieve this “direct split-screen mode”:

  • On a samsung tablet, I can enable a bottom icon bar with a “start menu”-like button that opens the app drawer. From there I can press and hold the QField icon and drag it to one of the sides.
  • On a motorola phone that does not have the previous option, and Android 14, I have to first open the two apps separately, create a split-screen pair and then “save” the pair (by going to the app selection screen, touching the dropdown arrow on one of the pair’s top icons and choosing “Save app pair”). Then I close the original pair and reopen it using the icon added to the device main screen. This procedure has to only be done once per each combination of apps that you would like to have open at the same time as QField.

Wow, quick solution. Thanks!

I have tested it on my S24 Ultra and Pixel 9 pro, it seems to work.

I’ll give it a try on the OnePlus Pad 3 when I get the chance tomorrow.
