What external GNSS systems are you using with QField?

I would like to create a list of these systems ( perhaps together with there pro’s and con’s ) and publish in the doc’s so other can find see that options are out there.

Please drop a comment with what you are using and how its going!

Ardusimple.

I have their RTK Handheld as well as and RTK Calibrated, both using Ardusimple simpleRTK2B boards. I have a basestation set up using another simpleRTK2B board.

All works well and no real issues

Also Ardusimple

Just using one of their handheld survey kits with Android phone, in Scotland highlands. Correction via their own App, and u-blox PointPerfect Flex RTK service (via 4G). All setup info is via Adusimple website. Lots of tutorials and information. maybe 600mm H accuracy with just unit, 10-20mm with RTK.

My first RTK unit - very happy with costs (£486) and service. Setup is very DIY and can take a while to go through various tutorials, but definitely worth it. Only have it about 2 months, so lots still to learn. Will move to static Base unit in the future once i understand more.

The Trimble DA2 (with coupled Catalyst subscription to get to cm precision). Coupling was easy, still wrestling with getting the orthometric height vs ellipsoidsal one (I already asked a question about it on this forum, I’m trying out the suggested solutions).

Our clear favorite - HAPPY MINI Q.

The HAPPY MINI Q is specially designed and integrated for use with QField. Its ultra-lightweight and compact design makes it suitable for use directly on a smartphone or tablet, as well as on a GNSS pole. It offers extremely high reception performance, even under difficult conditions. The antenna is particularly distinguished by its ability to use inclination measurements directly in QField, allowing you to directly control all important parameters and, if necessary, use them as variables in expressions, for example, as default values. It is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Its friendly design will bring a smile to your face every day. And another special feature - by purchasing the HAPPY MINI Q, you automatically support the further development of QField.

That’s fantastic.

Great! thanks for letting us know and for linking the site. Is there any change you could share picture of QField in action with your set up?

I was hoping someone would mention this  thanks!

Thank you! Did you manage to get the height sorted out?

Hey, is this something you built yourself? if so do you know of any tutorials on instructions you could share a link to?

The kit is based on a standard ArduSimple simpleRTK2B module and external antenna.

The most important part of setting up a base astation is determining its location to a good degree of accuracy. I am in the UK and work in the OSGB coordinate system so procedure may be different in other parts of the world but I found the best tutorial for determining location within the UK to be Location fixing for cave surveys It’s rather long but a very useful and informative read.

Originally I connected the ArduSimple to the internet and rtk2go NTRIP service using an ArduSimple WiFi NTRIP Master however this device proved unreliable long term with occasional disconnects and I now use a Pi Zero in its place, again with a wireless connection to provide some isolation from the rest of my network. The tutorial I used for this part is Ardusimple setup for student projects

It took quite a while to read and understand everything involved but I have very reliable system now I believe

Not yet, we’re still trying to figure out which piece of the puzzle we are missing. Or trying to connect in the wrong way.
